A project with impact
Messidor is a solar neighbourhood project which will allow several buildings in the Cité Messidor housing complex to benefit from solar-powered electricity. Designed as a garden suburb, Messidor lies across the communes of Forest and Uccle with both privately owned houses and social housing. Six households in different buildings have decided to join the project’s first stage, with solar installations of around 85 panels with a peak production effect of 31 kilowatts planned for the autumn of 2024.
A wider sustainability project for the Messidor area was launched in 2018 and homes have been collectively renovated. Installing solar power was also planned, but the regulatory framework was too complex, and the residents didn't want to create a new legal structure and manage the sharing themselves. They therefore called on brupower to develop the project collectively.
We expect more households to join the project after the first stage. There have also been discussions with the public housing agency managing the social housing of the area. CO2 savings with the current installation size is expected to be 188 tonnes during 20 years, or as much as driving 1.3 million kilometres with the average car.
